"The heartfelt prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available, dynamic in its work" (James 5:16).
It is patterned after Acts 2:1-2 where we read of the powerful result of corporate prayer, "And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting".
The term "one accord" carries the meaning of having the same mind, being in agreement mentally about the same thing. The word "agree" in Matthew 18:19 carries the meaning of being in one accord and the body of believers is drawn together with "one passion".
Acts 4:33 says, "Now the full number of those who believed were of one heart and soul... "
When we all pray together at the same time for the same thing, the power of the Holy Spirit is released in a much greater way, bringing swift breakthroughs and answers to prayer.
Coporate prayer edifies and unifies us as we share our common faith.
